Never, Ever, Could I Have Imagined What I Was Actually Saying Yes To…

When I pressed “send” on my last letter, Lifting My Voice, I thought I was simply following through on a promise to write. Instead, God was preparing me to sing again.

I haven’t led worship in a number of years, and I’ve felt nervous for a while now. At the beginning of 2025, I told myself and Cha Mu Taw (Cha Cha), our GAP worship leader, that I would start singing on the team again. Yet here we are in November, and I’ve only joined once!

Last Thursday night, I was putting my very jet-lagged children to bed and started to sing Jesus Loves Me, Amazing Grace, and God Is So Good. Simple songs—but the presence of God was so obvious. I could feel His power and the tangible goodness of God in the room.

Hours earlier, I had been handing out Bibles at Friendship Bridge No. 2 to people from 28 different nations—stuck in the middle between slavery and freedom.

As our family enjoyed the last week of our holiday, Judah’s phone buzzed constantly. While we were in Europe, a miracle was unfolding back home—over 1,500 people had escaped a trafficking compound in Myanmar. Judah was working to coordinate relief efforts with government, military, and embassy officials as we toured the alpine region of France, seeing snow from a gondola and eating the best pain au chocolat aux amandes of my life. As our holiday collided with the realities of home, I stayed “grounded” in holiday mode, keeping the kids mostly unaware of the situation Dad was handling.

When we returned, Judah dove straight back into things at the border. Our team at GAP had already prepped and delivered nearly 1,000 home-cooked meals for people sleeping under the roof at Friendship Bridge No. 2, and our partner organization, Acts of Mercy, was assisting on the ground with translation and coordinating relief efforts.

There’s nothing quite like coming home from holidays and jumping straight back into work! Just two days later, Judah lifted off again for Indonesia to participate in a conference on the “no punishment” principle for victims of human trafficking—sitting alongside government members from Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. These are nations known for their harsh justice systems, often criminalizing the very people who’ve been trafficked. Judah had the rare opportunity to share a different perspective—one rooted in mercy and justice.

On Wednesday, I sent that letter, Lifting My Voice. On Thursday, I was standing at the border, handing out Bibles from the back of a vehicle—people came, hungry for the Word of God and for attention.

That night, God told me we should have a worship service.

So Sunday came, and we led. It was so powerful. Cha Cha (GAP Staff), Ali (GAP Student), Judah, and I led worship for hundreds of people from across Africa and Asia. We lifted our voices to Way Maker, 10,000 Reasons, and The Blessing. Then Amy (Acts of Mercy) shared a beautiful message from the book of Acts and gave a call to salvation. We closed with Amazing Grace - My Chains Are Gone and God Is So Good, then spent time praying for individuals.

Lives were touched. It was a powerful time of lifting up the name of the Lord.

Their physical chains are gone, and we are praying for the spiritual bondages to be broken too. The process to full freedom has just begun. Many now await repatriation to their home countries—some will need assistance to purchase flights home, and many more are awaiting safe passage to Thailand, currently in holding camps on the Myanmar side.

When we say yes to Jesus, we really are opening ourselves to be used by Him in so many ways.

Let your yes be yes—and raise an anthem for Him today!

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before Him with thanksgiving
and extol Him with music and song.
Psalm 95:1–2
